Spiritual Psychology

"Man is in essence divine" DK

The Centre's approach to counselling and therapeutic work is based on the view that we are spiritual beings learning to express a loving, intelligent will in our everyday lives. The failure to do this is the basis for most of the unhappiness in our lives.

Emotional and psychological distress often develop as a result of this inhibited soul life and the spiritual psychologist's role is to identify the source of the problem and offer a means to its resolution. Normally, the problem lies in a failure to achieve certain developmental goals and and find full expression of one's life purpose. These factors are what will often bring people to counselling.

The counsellor can help the client to build a clearer sense of identity at the physical, emotional and mental levels, a healthy ego and a living relationship with the inner self. This process has a practical emphasis and uses counselling, awareness techniques and seership methods to lead you into the experience of your true Self.

The counselling and other techniques are used therapeutically to access and heal the various distracted and reactive states of mind that cut us off from our spiritual life. We have all experienced negative emotions, insistent desires and relationship patterns that are negative, repetitive and distressing. By understanding and resolving these issues we can then open to a deeper experience of the all-pervasive Self, which underlies the surface activity of the mind. Learning to step back and witness the nature of one's mind without identifying with it, allows our inner Reality to emerge.

Seership methods like astrology, numerology, oracles and heart-based psychic readings can help this process by revealing the subconscious and karmic obstacles in our lives. This then provides insights to combat the ancient habits that perpetuate the non-self.

Meditation and invocation techniques are also used to build the link between our mind and Spirit, the eternal being who stands behind the personality. Having built this link the capacity to communicate with others, via intuition and impression also starts to develop.

Often people find that as their personality becomes more integrated they become more aware of their personal and spitual gifts and want to discuss how best to use these in service to humanity and the Divinity.

The Healing of Consciousness

The healing of consciousness normally occurs when the souls energies express themselves through the personality but for that to occur our heart needs to open. The problem is that due to its sensitivity the heart has a tendency to close when wounded, rather like a sea anemone does when you touch it.

So for the heart to remain open we need to listen to what it is saying and not allow the worries, ruminations and other defenses of the mind to drown it out. Then as we become aware of the feelings, memories and impressions arisng out of the heart space we can simply witnesses what is floating into awareness. This mindfulness approach enables the factors that are in a state of imbalance to then resolve themselves.

When we are in this state of witness consciousness we don't react to any of the thoughts, feelings or emotions that come into awarenesss and recognise they are inherently empty. Our awareness remains for longer periods within the heart and facilitates the healing of our consciousness which may have been stuck on particular distractions within the body, emotions or mind. Consciousness becomes more contemplative and blissful.

If our attention becomes fixated on physical illness, emotional reactions or worries, guilts and doubts it tends to amplify our fear. So this non-reactive state of witness consciousness which is an aspect of the Presence, allows the wounds of the heart to be understood and released.

Whatever challenges we may face in life it can help to remember that our Spirit remains untouched by the suffering that we may be going through. There's no doubt that our heart and mind feel distressed by what happens to us or our loved ones but when we focus on the reality of the Presence healing and peace may be found.
